Lyrics for Slow & The Architect

Postby jyves on Sun 02 Mar, 2008 22:54

Bart posted Ryan's transcription of the Slow lyrics - http://pocketrevolution.blogspot.com/20 ... yrics.html

I was also working on my own transcription tonight, so here's what I came up with, using Ryan's interpretation for some parts I didn't understand. I underlined the parts I'm not sure aboout in italics. Any native English speaker willing to help is highly welcome :-)

Slow
Would be the tempo of the restless soul
You’ve seen what a listless life can bring
Wait, and then wait until he's waiting for
Delay didn’t see off everything

Slow
Would be the rhythm of the hummingbird
The quick speed in the shutter of his eyes
On flowers you will pose and he will spit the words
And how the world will slowly pass you by

Slow
And tiredness of your control
Of the moment that is nearly standing still
To wait for a minute and not a second more
And a face like a forbidden thrill

Gently behind the beat
We shuffle on ancient streets
The reverb of time
Is our vantage point
We slept for a million years
Lived through a million fears
We are not nervous
We will not ask for more

If you come slower I'm gonna slow too

Slow
Like the kissing of a lazy cheek
Like the limit and the deadline of the rush
And words, words waiting for you to speak
Or getting lost in your eternal crush

Slow
Would be the tempo of the restless mind
You've seen what a listless life can bring
And wait and then he waits until he's waiting for
For the wait didn’t see off everything

Gently behind the beat
We shuffle on ancient streets
The reverb of time
Is our vantage point
We slept for a million years
Lived through a million fears
We are not nervous
We will not ask for more
Pawns of the troubled times
And kings of our petty crimes
The minds will function
With a small delay
See what the past has planned
The future's a beggar's hand
The more we understand
The slower our days

If you come slower I'm gonna slow too

The Architect, anyone? I'll try that now, but I know I won't get it all.

And here's my go at The Architect. There's a whole lot I can't make out, but the lyrics sure sound hilarious :-)
Well you are just you, you don't have a clue

(Ah, nevermind that there’s space left, let’s get down to earth!)

What is the architect doing?
He is by the riverside
What is he thinking out there?
He is committing unclecide
Now isn’t that a strange thing?
Well, to him it feels just
Oh we guess a person’s gotta do
What a person feels he must

He said: “I won’t throw myself from the pier”
“I’m gonna go home and shut up for a year
And when the year is over I’ll reappear
And have a solution”

A reason to believe if there ever was one
It’s gonna change the face of humankind
And all these years before, well I was blind
That’s my conclusion

Cause I’m the architect
(OK, let’s touch and go)
Cause I’m the architect
(OK, let’s touch and go)
Cause I’m the architect

Now the man is understood
He … space over…
By all the problems on this Earth we should

And so he’s brooding and alluding on a perfect design
He think he’s working on behalf of himself as a clown
He flashes out by the water in his old van
He’s the architect…
A man and …

He said: “I won’t throw myself from the pier”
“I’m gonna go home and shut up for a year
And when the year is over I’ll reappear
And have a solution”

A reason to believe if there ever was one
It’s gonna change the face of humankind
And all these years before, well I was blind
That’s my conclusion

Cause I’m the architect
(OK, let’s touch and go)
Cause I’m the architect
(OK, let’s touch and go)
Cause I’m the architect
(OK, let’s touch and go)
(That’s it we’re going to make it)
(Don’t … or we won’t make it)

And so he drew himself a Pentagon
Thinking it through …
From the coast of the 80’s
To the hills of Rome

Cause the man will take the Nobel prize home

He said: “I won’t throw myself from the pier”
“I’m gonna go home and shut up for a year
And when the year is over I’ll reappear
And have a solution”

Now if these aspirations bother you
Well you are just you, you don’t have a clue
Off sticking to the plan
I will see it through
Let there be no confusion

Cause I’m the architect
(OK, let’s touch and go)
Cause I’m the architect
(OK, let’s touch and go)
Cause I’m the architect

Here's what I make of it:

The Architect:

(Ah, never mind that outer space stuff, let's get down to earth!)

What is the architect doing?
He is by the riverside
What is he thinking out there?
He is committing evil side
Now isn’t that a strange thing?
Well, to him it feels just
Oh we guess a person’s gotta do
What a person feels he must

He said: “I won’t throw myself from the pier
I’m gonna go home and shut up for a year
And when the year is over I’ll reappear
And have a solution”

I've reason to believe that what I find
Is gonna change the face of humankind
And all these years before, well I was blind
That’s my conclusion

Cause I’m the architect
(I feel it's touch and go)
Cause I’m the architect
(I feel it's touch and go)
Cause I’m the architect

Now the man has understood
The outer space is overrated
By all the problems on this Earth we should
…………
He’s always brooding and alluding on a perfect design
He thinks the working on behalf of himself is a crime
He flashes out by the water and feels so divine
He’s the architect of something
A man in his prime

He said: “I won’t throw myself from the pier
I’m gonna go home and shut up for a year
And when the year is over I’ll reappear
And have a solution”

I've reason to believe that what I find
Is gonna change the face of humankind
And all these years before, well I was blind
That’s my conclusion

Cause I’m the architect
(I feel it's touch and go)
Cause I’m the architect
(I feel it's touch and go)
Cause I’m the architect
(I feel it's touch and go)
(That’s it; we’re going to make it)
(Don’t let up)
(Don’t let up or we won’t make it)
(Don’t let up)
(Don’t let up or we won’t make it)

And so he drew himself a pentagon
Thinking it through would be a these or don't
From the coast of Tahiti
To the hills of Rome
Step aside cause the man will take the Nobel Prize home

He said: “I won’t throw myself from the pier
I’m gonna go home and shut up for a year
And when the year is over I’ll reappear
And have a solution”

Now if these aspirations bother you
Well you are just you, you don’t have a clue
I'm sticking to the plan
I will see it through
Let there be no confusion

Cause I’m the architect
(I feel it's touch and go)
Cause I’m the architect

Cause I’m the architect

Slow:

Slow
Would be the tempo of the restless soul
You have seen what a listless life can bring
Wait, and then you wait until he's waiting for
The latency of everything

Slow
Will be the rhythm of the hummingbird
The quick speed in the shutter of his eye
On flowers you will pose and you will spread the word
on how the world is slowly passing by

Slow
Entireness of your control
Of the moment that is nearly standing still
And wait for a minute and not a second more
Unphased like a forbidden thrill

Gently behind the beat
We shuffle on ancient streets
The reverb of time
Is our vantage point
We slept for a million years
Lived through a million fears
We are not nervous
We will not ask for more

If you can slow up I'm gonna slow up too

Slow
Like the kissing of a lazy cheek
Like the limit and the deadline of the rush
And words, words waiting for you to speak
of getting lost in your eternal crush

Slow
Would be the tempo of the restless mind
You've seen what a listless life can bring
And wait and then he waits until he's waiting for
For the latency of everything

Gently behind the beat
We shuffle on ancient streets
The reverb of time
Is our vantage point
We slept for a million years
Lived through a million fears
We are not nervous
We will not ask for more
Pawns of the troubled times
And kings of our petty crimes
The minds will function
With a small delay
See what the past has planned
The future's a beggar's hand
The more we understand
The slower our days

If you can slow up I'm gonna slow up too

In my humble opinion, the lyrics to 'Slow' are nothing short of genius, they are real pointers to the absolute truth of things and this record is a sublime work of art. Thank you dEUS.

My take on the lyrics to 'Slow'

Slow
Would be the tempo of the restless soul
He’s seen what a listless life can bring
Wait, and then waits until he's waiting for
The latency of everything

On flowers he will prose and he will spread the words
On how the world will slowly pass you by

Slow
And tiredness of your control
Of the moment that is nearly standing still
Delayed for a minute and not a second more
Un-phased like a forbidden thrill

Gently behind the beat
We’ll shuffle on ancient streets
The reverb of time
Is our vantage point
We slept for a million years
Lived through a million fears
We are not nervous

Ah, this looks like a sensible transcription - I'll publish this for now :)

And yeah indeed - fabulous lyrics, and delivery. One of their best songs ever to me.

for the architect; what about the italics...

He flashes out by the water and feels so divine
He’s the architect of his own thing
A man in his prime

I'd say
He's the architect of his own fate/faith
A man in his prime

What I'm hearing is..
" If you can slow all.
I'm going to slow all time. "

Or perhaps that is what I want to hear.. 8)

Anyone ever heard of the book: de Ontdekking van de Hemel, van Harry Mulisch. The lyrics of The Architect remind me of this book.

The official lyrics as published by Humo:

dEUS - The Architect
Music: Barman/Janzoons/
Misseghers/Pawlowski/Gevaert
Lyrics: Barman

What is the architect doing?
He is by the riverside
What is he thinking out there?
He is committing egocide
Now isn’t that a strange thing?
Well to him it feels just
Well we guess a person’s gotta do,
What a person feels he must
He said:
I won’t throw myself from the pier
I’m gonna go home and shut up for a year
And when that year is over I’ll reappear
And have a solution
I’ve reason to believe that what I find
Is gonna change the face of human kind
And all these years before well I was blind
That’s my conclusion
Cause I’m the architect
Now the man has understood
That outer space is overrated
About all the problems on this earth we should
Worry now to solve them later
And so he’s brooding and alluding on a perfect design
He thinks that working on behalf of himself is a crime
He flashes out by the water, a view so divine
He’s the architect of his own fate, a man in his prime
He said:
I won’t throw myself from the pier
I’m gonna go home and shut up for a year
And when that year is over I’ll reappear
And have a solution
I’ve reason to believe that what I fi nd
Is gonna change the face of human kind
And all these years before well I was blind
That’s my conclusion
And so he drew a pentagon
Thinking it through a geodesic dome
From the coast of Tahiti, to the hills of Rome
Step aside cause the man will take the Nobel prize home
Now if these aspirations bother you
Well you are just you, you don’t have a clue
I’m sticking to the plan I will see it through
Let there be no confusion
Cause I’m the architect

"Geodesic dome", of course! That invention is what Buckminster Fuller is most famous for.
