Manu Riche Documentary

Postby Bellebeest on Sun 13 Sep, 2009 19:32

The Manu Riche-documentary about Tom Barman will have its premiere at the Ghent Filmfestival on October 14th. The title of the documentary is Portrait of a Young Man as an Artist. Riche and camera-man Renaat Lambeets have followed Barman from the release of Pocket Revolution until the headlining slot of dEUS at Rock Werchter 2008.

Do you think you'll have to buy tickets at the website of the filmfestival? (since you're refering to the 23th) 'Cause I really want to go and see the documentary at the Vooruit, but it's not mentioned in the program on their website.

There's a big article on the Tom Barman-documentary in De Standaard today. It gives some background on a couple of scenes. Most important thing may be the fact that apparently the movie is now called Tempo of a restless soul instead of Portrait Of A Young Man As An Artist.

the title comes from the lyrics of Slow

Any idea whether the documentary will be shown later on in other cinemas? Especially Cartoons (Antwerp) seems like a perfect spot to me (but why not Metropolis as well?). I'm extremely curious for seeing the film/documentary (especially after reading the 'De Standaard' interview) but can't go the Ghent...

here a review by Studio Brussels (in Dutch).

Spoilers:

it's mainly a tour documentary with backstage footage and jokes. Sure, you get a better idea of Tom's life and how he works with the other members of the band. Lots of rock 'n roll, but no sex nor drugs. Except the part where Alan turns up stoned at the early stages of the Vantage Point recordings, which makes Tom very angry and he has to sort this out first before joining the band again (note: there's been some indication of Alan's drug problem in interviews in the past, so it's no real surprise). But very brave of Alan to include this in the movie.

and here an interview with director / camera man Renaat Lambeet (also in Dutch).

He followed Tom for the last 3 years for this film (though Renaat has been filming for dEUS for many many years).

I've read this documentary will be shown at Canvas (Belgian TV) soon... Probably end November early December (which will fall together with the dEUS week on channel "8" (Belgian digital TV) where other documentary and compilations of the past pukkelpop gigs will be shown the whole week).

The Manu Riche documentary will maby also be shown in a couple of alternative cinemas, but this is not sure yet. Negotiations are still ongoing...

On DVD = ??
