We came from southwest Germany and travelled 400km (one way) to see the tryout, though on Wednesday they'll play just 30km from my hometown. Anyway it was worth the travel!!!!!
Great set, of course some misunderstandings and technical problems, but that shouldn't surprise that much. That's why it is called "tryout", right?

I have to underline my appreciation for Mauro at this point. He is freezer-burn compared to cool. Really there is no-one on the planet more cool than him. Just a little emotional explosion from time to time and then back to looking like being apart from what's going on. Almost looking shy; but we know he isn't shy when it comes to music.....

Can't wait to see them again on Wednesday....

I'm so glad you all had a great time. But youre reviews are getting me confused. We were there. I don't feel like these reviews are from the concert I went to last night.

I'll be brief (Because I'm cooking and I don't like burned aubergines;)) : I feel like I have been at a funeralparty last night. Not a bad one but ... The new songs don't do it - to be sure I filmed a few, watched them last night and this morning, nope, not 'my dEUS'. At one point my friend looked at me with ??? in his eyes, I held up my hands, shrugging, he said 'coldplay' in my ear and I answered 'nay, not even that'. 'Popular culture' sounds like it is written by Kris Wouters, my son said. He was the one holding up his lighter, yep, my son is a cynic ...

Jumping off the train! With great memories to cherish and a few terrific cd's. It's been a great journey (1994-2008). I'm sure they will find a new audience.

Should I be getting scared?

Not if you ask me Heinz. We were there and enjoyed every minute of it. Many songs are more accessible which is a good thing if you hear them like me for the first time.

By the way, Tom's hairdo suited me just fine.......... =P~

I thought it was a great gig. The band is in excellent shape and the songs all sound very good (I haven't heard the album yet). Mauro was very enthusiastic and all the other guys seemed very focused. Very surprising for me was the excellent backings by Steph, I mean really, really excellent !!! Never noticed that on the previous tour. I also liked the parts where the whole band sang together like in Pocket Revolution, WWTA and Turnpike was of course great as always. My brother was there with me and he hates PR but he also loved this gig and the new songs!
I feel Vantage Point and the upcoming shows will be awesome  Can't wait

To those who took pictures during last night's try out, and those who will be taking pictures during the shows to come:
feel free to post your photos in our very own ISR Photo Gallery: click here.

Previously the Photo Gallery was connected to your forum account. Unfortunately with the introduction of this new forum that connection was lost. This means you will have to re-register (takes only a few seconds).

If you've uploaded any photos before this new forum was put online, please send me a PM after registering and include the username you had on the previous forum (probably the same as you have now). That way I can re-connect your new registration with your previously uploaded photos.

thanks!

It seems people are either very positive, or very negative. I'm more like a middle-of-the-road guy, I guess. I didn't feel like I was at a funeral (and I've been to a Daan funeral a couple of times, so I know how it feels - up to the point of wanting to actually nail his coffin shut). I didn't feel like this was the greatest concert of the greatest band of the world, either.

Remember, these are mostly new songs; you can't do much improvisation on new songs that nobody's supposed to know yet. I hope Tom didn't see how many people sang along to Popular Culture though. Not that I think that they'll do much improvising anymore  because let's face it... Stephane and Allan may be great musicians, they lack the crazy, colourful inspiration of previous members. And Mauro's not using dEUS as an exhaust vent for his gigantic creativity.

I liked a lot of the new songs (and of course the old ones), and there were some that I thought 'this could become a good song'. Oh your God is a killer, live. That's vintage dEUS. Slow and The Architect are great party songs. Eternal woman is dull in a live setting (and with such a loud audience) but could be a goosebumps song in a solo accoustic setting. The Vanishing of Maria Schneider can go both ways, but needs some work to make it an exciting live song. I think Is A Robot needs some work too. Smokers Reflect is never going to work though (IMHO).

I liked what I saw. Not all of it (especially not the large lady in front of me twittering all through the show), and there were some moments of boredom. It's not their best album, the live shows are not going to be like in the early nineties (I only know of those by reputation). But it's not like you're suddenly listening to Coldplay, you know. :|

To those of you who are worried: don't worry too much. There's a fair chance you'll like what you see

Not at all... Just another interesting personal review but I strongly disagree. I enjoyed it, not the best dEUS gig, but very promising. I think even more promising than the Pocket Revolution era... And popular culture is just a great song with a lot of potential and indeed, it'll attract a new audience but is that bad? Ofcourse, everybody should have his own opinion so...
