Hotellounge by The Frames and Tom

Postby jyves on Sat 25 Feb, 2006 19:23

A few years ago there was a tribute concert for a famous Irish TV or radio presenter. The Frames played there, so did Tom, and together they performed Hotellounge.

Anyone still got a recording of that? I'd love to hear it again.

Ah, the beautiful Uaneen Fitzsimons. I think I have a recording lying around somewhere. Will have to check though.

Erin kindly sent it to me :)

They're pretty much out of tune during Hotellounge, but it sounds like it was very much improvised and it's definitely not without its charms!

And wow, listening to it again, I think that I wouldn't have minded The Frames to take Tom as their singer and change their name to dEUS between 2000 and 2005 :)

Wow, that is quite the statement! I'm surprised no one's jumped on this yet....

Discuss people, discuss!

There are some parallels between the Frames and dEUS... the Frames are very dark and moody... Songs can be very quiet and drawn out, then explode into large cacophony, and you can listen to them over and over and hear new things each time...

But then again, they lack something dEUS has. Their music is far more serious (whereas dEUS is peppered with comedic songs, like Supermarketsong)... although I've never seen a band enjoy themselves so much onstage. The Frames look like they're genuinely LOVING it up there... their smiles and laughter seem so genuine and is so contagious!

BUT this is yet another anecdote for you all! Can't remember if i posted it when it happened!

Last year I saw the Frames... I only knew them because of dEUS, so i naturally wore my dEUS t-shirt. Glen Hansard saw me wearing it, and started singing the lyrics to Suds and Soda. I thought, "surely that can't be because of me," but he was looking at me, and gave me a sort of salute. In my obliviousness I still thought 'that can't be to me,' but he laughed when he saw me smile. When that song ended, he said, "This next song is for the girl in the dEUS shirt! She rocks!" and he played 'Sideways Down'... and then also invited me up onstage to sing Hotellounge with them during Star Star, but I couldn't bring myself to do it... *sigh*

But it just shows-- whether in mid-concert or not, dEUS fans still feel the need to share the mutual dEUS love! haha

...So Jyves, do you love the Frames yet?!?!
